Weight Loss Genes: Why DNA Based Diets Work

If you’ve struggled to get to a healthy weight without results, your genes (and not your jeans) may be the problem!  Genetic differences are the reason why some people can easily drop 15 pounds on certain diets, while others can’t even lose a pound in spite of following the exact same diet to a “T”.

It turns out that in the debate over which diet is best – low-fat, low-carb, high-protein – the answer may lie in each person’s individual DNA.

Based on this revolutionary scientific information, Dr. Ruthie Harper now offers a highly successful gene-based weight loss method called “skinnyDNA“. It is a medically advanced weight loss program that is customized for each patient’s unique genetic makeup. This personalized weight loss program is ideal for women and men who have been struggling with weight loss for a long time – or who simply want to drop those extra pounds that never seem to go away.

The Science Behind DNA Based Diet

In a recent study of 133 overweight women conducted by Stanford University, researchers found that genetic testing can help people identify which type of diet works best for them to lose weight.

The women with a genetic makeup that favored a low-carbohydrate diet lost more than twice as much weight as those on the same low-carb diet without this predisposition. Conversely, women with “low-fat genes” who were put on a low-fat diet lost substantially more weight than women without low-fat genes who reduced fat intake.

Over the course of the one-year study, people who were on diets appropriate for their genetic makeup lost 5.3% of their body weight, while the women on the mismatched diets only lost 2.3% of their body weight. In other words, in scientific studies, patients on DNA based diets lost almost twice as much as the patients who were on the “wrong” diet for their genetics!

Why DNA Based Diets Works

The human body has variations in three genes that are known to regulate how the body metabolizes dietary fats and carbohydrates.

One of the genetic variations affects absorption of fat from the intestine. People with this mutation absorb more fat from their food than other people, and thus should decrease fat intake in order to lose weight.

Another genetic variation affects the body’s production of insulin, which is used to metabolize sugars (carbohydrates). People with this particular gene type store more of simple carbohydrates (like sugar and processed flour) as fat. So, people with this mutation should decrease carb intake in order to lose weight.

In data from another study, it was determined that 45% of Caucasian women have a “low-carb genotype” and 39% have “low-fat” DNA.  And an unlucky minority of 16% of people have genetic makeup that means they have to watch out for both fat and processed carbohydrates.

As an added benefit, in these studies, it was shown that cholesterol levels also improved in line with weight loss, in patients who were on the “right” diet for their DNA.
